It is with great joy and gratitude that I share this message as we celebrate ten years of HOPE’s journey. From the very beginning, our vision was clear to stand beside persons with disabilities (PWD) and their families, ensuring that no one is left behind because of their challenges. When HOPE was founded, disability services in Sri Lanka—especially in the north and east—were limited and often inaccessible. Families coping with developmental, learning, or intellectual disabilities had little support and carried their burdens in silence. HOPE was born out of the belief that every person, regardless of ability, has potential and deserves dignity, care, and inclusion.

Over the past decade, we have worked tirelessly to bridge service gaps through play therapy, parental guidance, and community-based programs. What we have learned is that disabilities do not define individuals—the absence of support does. With proper care, countless children have blossomed, and families once burdened by despair have found hope and strength. Our journey has not been easy. The communities we serve are often war-affected and economically vulnerable. Yet these challenges have only strengthened our resolve to be a resilient, community-driven organization. Looking ahead, our Multi-Skills Development Project will equip PWD with lifelong skills and opportunities, moving from care to true empowerment. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our staff, volunteers, partners, and well-wishers for their unwavering support. Above all, I salute the children and families who inspire us daily with their courage and resilience. As we enter the next decade, let us continue building a society where persons with disabilities are celebrated for their abilities, contributions, and humanity.
