Community-Based Programs

CBR Activities

CBR is a voluntary group that serves the people who have committed themselves to working for the vulnerable section of the community. The first step of the CBR group is to bring solidarity and find the need of the PWD.

1.1 Need Assessment: This is a basic activity that would give the basic data of the PWDs and their needs and take steps for their identification, which can lead to CBR trainings.

1.2 CBR Training: – According to the identifications of their vulnerability, they can be categorized for further psychosomatic therapy Related with their closed relations’ guidance and counseling Follow-up & home visits are very important steps. 

1.3 Follow-up & Home Visits: – Visiting the PWDs and their blood relations is to be constantly done and guided. On the one hand, the persons with disabilities can be guided to integrate into society through therapy. On the other hand, due to follow-up, the close relations can be set free from trauma. In this situation, the need for volunteer counselors is very important. 

1.4 Daily Living Activities: – The life pattern of the PWDs and blood relations can be assured through constant care and engagement of the volunteers and councilors. All CBR activities are based on PWDs’ improvement in their life patterns.

Educational Activities

Since early child – hood till youth and for their educational programs the educational activities would be bone and flesh. PWDs can be considered as direct beneficiaries of the education Programs. Windows and parents would indirect beneficiaries. Under categories of PWD,s war affected children will be included

2.1 Early Childhood Education: – This is the foundation for the upliftment of the PWDs. Indentifying the Vulnerability: there is an essential need of preschool Model. It’s to be materialized in future. This kind of preschool can be a place of integration of common children with pads

2.2 Special School: – This is a preschool, which should be materialized as special school in future. This school must have modernized facilities for the development of PWDs in order to improve psycho – social growth. Sign language training is to be provided to PWD,s .This is a future plan

2.3 Language Classes: – Language is a medium of understanding of human communication. Reading, Writing and conversation among PWDs is possible through their special medium. 

2.4 Awareness Programs: – In order to know about the child Rights for the PWDs and Parents’ Rights are needful of awareness programs. [ Refer child Rights Sri Lanka has already signed the UN- child Rights convention] Convention in 1991. In 1989, November 20th, child Rights was accepted in UNO.

2.5 Evening Class: – This program is conducted for the disability families. The PWDs will engage in Dance and Music for short while they will be taught to read & write their mother tongue. In this evening class which is held at the town everybody will gather in one place. But transport difficulties forbid everybody to gather in one place.

2.6 Sponsorship Programs: – On the basis of social vulnerability the beneficiaries are selected through sponsorship. Widows and the families which are below to poverty line will be included. Anyhow the sponsorship depends on the vulnerable member of each family

Medical Activities​

The intention of Medical Activities is to provide holistic healing. The first step of Medical Activities is to attend the multidisciplinary clinical camp.

3.1 Multi – disciplinary Clinical Camp:-  This is the basic step and to attend the camp will provide the identification of various needs of the beneficiaries through identification the needful devices of the beneficiaries will be classified. 
 
3.2 Providing Devices:-  Through identification, needful devices of the beneficiaries can be classified under the following Categories, providing spec tables, hearing machines, wheel – chair and walker are some of their devices. Tricycle can be provided to having been providing the devices, there is a step of clients Review.   
 
3.3 Clients Review:—This step is to make a frequent visit to the beneficiaries who got the devices; the volunteer would visit them frequently and find their progress. So ‘follow up’ is very important to find clients’ needs through regular visits. 

3.4 Follow Up:—The final step is to show concern to the volunteers. Through regular visits. The purpose of the visit is to promote prevention.

3.5 Prevention: The intention of all medical activities is to wipe out the disability form our people during this generation. To prevent the disability rather than cure it. In order to present the disability of the child, the awareness of drugs during for the mothers to lead the younger mothers to take the prevention steps must be taught to the male & females of the society. 

Economics Activities

Economic activities are backbone of a family, a society and thus of an organization or any institute. Here we mean the IGA, IE, and Income Generation Activities. These activities would definitely encourage the local income of the beneficiaries.

4.1 IGA Support :-
Local income of a family or a society or a organization can be promoted through Income Generation Activities (IGA) support. These are to sharing experience. Then giving knowledge & counseling. These activities can be enhanced with the support of the local NGO’s or foreign NGO (INGOS)

4.2 Vocational Trainings :-
Vocational training is to be provided to the PWDS fewer than three divisions. They are as follows.
a. Handicraft Training
b. Making envelopes, candles and Garlands
c. Palmyra Products Training.

4.3 Job Opportunities :-
Job opportunities is a for Income generation providing act of Human resource development. According to the 18 possessed skills the PWDS can be categorized under certain job description. Then skills will be developed and equipments will be provided. At present, computer skills will lead them into training & find job opportunities. 

4.4 Social Protection :-
The PWDS have to be protected in their society from the economic and psychic challenges. In order to safeguard the PWDS in their society their challenge has to be met and counter solutions have to be given by the same family & the society. The organizations can come forward to safeguard them from their & poverty and subjugation. In this regard ‘SHG’ (self Help Group) and DOPS (Disabled persons organizations) can empower the PWDS.

4.4.1 SHG :-
‘Self Help Groups’ can be formed & strengthened to eliminate the poverty of the families of PWDS. This is indirectly strengthening the women in order to protect their family in embers who are victimized.

4.4.2 DPO :-
Disable persons organization should establish in village lend. This organization should function in village level in order to strengthen them economically and culturally. The other aspects which are mentioned below must be considered in their village level. 

Social Awareness

Social Awareness should be made in the categories of child – care, Parental – care and Individual care.

5.1 Awareness Program :-
This awareness can be made with the intention of poverty – elimination through cultural performances. those who were isolated from the society must be brought forward and be guided for social integration.

5.2 Advocacy :-
Advocacy is to guide the beneficiaries to find out their needs and how to solve it, this is a kind of guidance to the PWDS and their Blood Relations including parents and guardians. Specially helping them Solves to get their birth certificate, parents death certificate are such some of them. In this regard the volunteers would lead both of the parents / guardians or PWDS. 

5.3 Cultural Events :-
Literary Skills of the PWDS should be developed towards who holistic healing. The in tension of skills development is possible only through cultural performances. Not only the mental dimension but also physical dimension can be motivated through. Cultural events and sports. So we must give preference to conduct the cultural performance, Disability day, and children days and children sports. 

5.4 Justice :-
Justice can be achieved through all the above said tasks and maintenance of children rights. That would be benefits of the Democracy and Development of human resources.
